About Purple

"Purple" is the development/codename for a deliverable in the Uni-Verse project. It is developed in cooperation between Uni-Verse partners PDC at KTH and the Blender Foundation.

The goal is to develop a "computational engine" for Verse, based on plug-ins. You can think of Purple as sort of the back end of an ordinary 3D package. It allows developers to write small pieces of functionality, called plug-ins, that can be connected together to get things done. Since the user interface ("front end") is completely separate, anyone can do their own if they desire.

What makes Purple extra interesting is that the input and output data is kept in the Verse data format. Purple automatically imports and exports the data from/to a Verse host, meaning that all data is seamlessly shared across networks.

Purple is completely open technology, made available under the GNU GPL. All the code is in public CVS. We are looking for people to get involved.
